Take Action

We are initiating a campaign to secure a revenue stream for the City of Cincinnati Affordable Housing Trust Fund. Although the trust fund was established in 2018, no money has been allocated into it. We want to give the City of Cincinnati an opportunity to vote on an investment into affordable housing.

Read the ballot language here.

Our affordable housing trust fund campaign is a community-driven movement, and we need activists and organizers to join our campaign teams. The first step is to petition the public and gather signatures from registered voters, and then this initiative can be on the ballot for the people of Cincinnati to decide whether or not they value affordable housing. We are planning for this initiative to be on the ballot in May of 2021.

It will take a collaborative effort across the entire community, and we can find a team that fits your skills, strengths, and personality. Each team has a "Lead" whose role is to coordinate communication with the Steering Committee. The Lead also schedules and facilitates meetings, but the activities are decentralized and each team member has plenty of space dream and discover.

Public Relations Team

Are you a designer, content writer, or infographic junkie with an edgy passion for progressive social change and an intersectional analysis of justice?  The PR team might be the right fit. This team is building our social media platforms from the ground up, and also writes articles, blogs, and press releases for traditional and digital publication. Interested? Email Alice Flanders at flandeam@gmail.com

Storytelling Team

Are you a compassionate, active listener who easily connects with others? Members of the Storytelling Team find people who have experienced housing instability, and provide them with a platform to share their narrative. You'll coordinate with other team members to interview participants, collect video and audio files, and connect the stories to a community audience through social media. Interested? Email Amanda Lynn Barker at amandabarker@cincihomeless.org

Field Petitioning Team

Are you an outgoing organizer ready to confront the challenge of petitioning the public? This team will schedule no-contact signature collections in community spaces like libraries and places of worship, and with tenant groups. Other activities include phone canvassing, dropping literature, and verifying voter registration. Interested? Email Carolyn Fast at cfast627@gmail.com

Want to volunteer for only one day?

Collect petitions at a Polling Location on November 3!

If you believe that housing is a human right and want to see affordable housing as a priority in the City of Cincinnati, we need your support! We are organizing a presence at strategic polling locations on November 3 to collect signatures from people who show up to vote. Not only will this get us in front of registered voters, but this election is likely to be one of the strongest turnouts in recent history! Also, let's not forget that the warm days of summer and fall are coming to a close, which means less opportunity for us to safely collect signatures during these times of COVID-19. If we don't collect the signatures, we won't get to vote on this initiative in May 2021!
All volunteers who sign up to collect petitions on November 3 will receive access to a virtual training, along with instructions about when and where to collect and return petitioning packets. Volunteer shifts are three hours, and anyone is welcome to sign up for up to three shifts. Shift times are still TBD, but we will have one in the early morning, one around noon, and one in the early evening. Details are TBD.
To sign up, contact Amanda Lynn Barker at amandabarker@cincihomeless.org
